Hump Day Jams

Wednesday, August 14

Have you listened to The Civil Wars new album yet? It is all I have listened to this week and I am in love. I am obsessed. It rings in my soul and it is perfection. Her voice is so unique and so beautiful. It's so hauntingly, stingingly, bitterly sweet. The harmonies they have together are so pure and easy. They sound like they are floating on air.

My friend Niki was talking with me about them and she said this ruby of a thought. "They sing life. They just sound like life." And they do. I love them.

My favorite song on the album is called Dust to Dust. I can't. Take a listen, beautiful world.

Also that album cover? Can they stop being so perfect? And these lyrics.

It's not your eyes,
It's not what you say,
It's not your laughter
That gives you away.

You're just lonely
You've been lonely
too long.

Oh, you're acting your thin disguise
All your perfectly delivered lines
They don't fool me
You've been lonely
too long.

Let me in the wall
you've built around
We can light a match
and burn them down.
Let me hold your hand
and dance round and round the flames
in front of us.
Dust to dust.

You've held your head up
You've fought the fight
You bear the scars
You've done your time.
Listen to me,
You've been lonely
too long.

Let me in the wall
you've built around
We can light a match
and burn them down.
Let me hold your hand
and dance round and round the flames
in front of us.
Dust to dust.

You're like a mirror, reflecting me.
Takes one to know one, take it from me.
You've been lonely,
You've been lonely, too long.
We've been lonely
We've been lonely, too long.

Wednesday, July 24

Another peaceful summer jam. I've been having a mellow summer music season and it's really been quite nice. This song is nice and easy like a Sunday morning. It feels peaceful and caring. I'd like someone to sing me this song.

It's called The Dress Looks Nice on You by Sufjan Stevens. He's so lovely always.

:) Have a wonderful Wednesday. We are almost to the weekend, darlings.

I can see a lot of life in you
I can see a lot of bright in you
And I think the dress looks nice on you
I can see a lot of life in you

I can see a bed and make it too
I can see a fireside turn blue
And I can see the lot of life in you
Yes, I can see a lot of life in you

When the world looks back
When the face looks after that
I can see a lot of life in you
Yes, I can see a lot of life in you

I can see a lot of life in you
I can see your bed and make it too
And I think the dress looks nice on you
Yes, I can see a lot of life in you

I can see a lot of life in you
Yes, I can see a lot of life in you

I'm not even embarrassed at how much I've listened to this song these past two days. I have been feeling really sick these past few days. Stomach sick, headaches, the works... but this song is beautiful and has made me feel a lot better. Also it has helped me sleep. Any song that can do that is ok by me.

They are British. And adorable. Their band name is the worst and their songs are guilty pleasures. But this song is the most precious song and this video is like the cutest instagram video in the world. Please to enjoy Little Things.

Get them out of here. Cuties.

Happy Wednesday! I hope you love all of your little things. :)

Well I am back into the swing of school! Kind of. I'm almost done and it's so hard to motivate, you know? And this week has been a whirlwind of stuff to deal with. Almost done with school, helping with a yard sale on Saturday, work for the next four days straight, MOVING is finally figured out hopefully!

Adult life, am I right?

The world keeps going and going and going and I feel like I'm stuck standing here watching it twirl around me. Like I'm standing in the center of a globe while everything just keeps spinning out of control.

This has been one of my favorite songs for years and years. It's called The World Spins Madly On by The Weepies, one of the best bands ever. They are so soft and perfect for cold winter nights and for summer nights where you need soft sounds to relax you. I need that this week when my world is spinning madly on. And this video is gorgeous, definitely my favorite video on youtube. It's gorgeous.

I hope your week is going great and that this song can calm any stormy seas out there.

Doesn't everyone just love the Fourth of July? It's definitely one of my absolute favorite holidays. I love the heat, the sun soaked sidewalks, the fireworks, the friends. It's all amazing. I loved it when I rode on the city council float with my daddy, and I love it now laying back and watching the fireworks with my best friends.

Dang it, I just love America. And Lana del Rey, who also loves America. This song is so sweet and lovely and I get what she means by her descriptions and wanting an American boy. American boys are different. I love them. One or two in particular.

HAPPY MURICA DAY TOMORROW!

Your skin so golden brown,
Be young, be dope, be proud,
Like an American.

Well, today was amazing and I think we all know why.

MARRIAGE EQUALITY!!!!! We are moving forward people, one small step at a time. I'm so thrilled for those who are now granted equal rights. Some of my closest friends are gay and I am so happy for them on this day.

So here is today's song, from the mother of equality herself. Enjoy this wonderful day, my friends.

ALSO watch this video some awesome people made. It's the best. Equal rights for all.

I can't get over how funny that video is. Enjoy :)

What a wonderful week. It's a week like this that's full of little reminders of happy times of the past, present, and future that makes me love being alive. I've been reliving an old music obsession lately and this song has been slowly working its way up my iTunes top plays. I have loved Lily Allen since my 7th grade year. She's the cutest. Someone get her to make another CD. Two is not enough. Anywho, this song is lovely. So are you. :)

JUST LET ME BE BRITISH ALREADY GEEZ.

Summer is such a refreshing season. Even if you are incredibly busy like I am this summer, the sun and the stars of summer skies call for slowing down and relaxing. Life begins again with the summer (Thanks Nick Carraway... I'm gonna throw my cares away this summer too. Hopefully I'll find my Gatsby.)

Great things are going to happen this summer. I cannot wait to see what they are.

For some reason this has been the only song I have craved all week. It's called A Lack of Color by Death Cab for Cutie. This is such a gorgeous song on what I'd argue is one of the best albums of all time. To me it sounds like summer nights spent laying out and relaxing on my driveway staring at the stars, dreaming for the future. Enjoy :)

I liked this cute little video. :)

And when I see you
I really see you upside down.
But my brain knows better
It picks you up and turns you around
Turns you around, turns you around.

If you feel discouraged
That there's a lack of color here.
Please don't worry, lover
It's really bursting at the seams,
from absorbing everything,
The spectrum's A to Z.

This is fact not fiction,
for the first time in years.
All the girls in every girly magazine
Can't make me feel
any less alone.

I'm reaching for the phone
To call at 7:03 and on your machine
I slur a plea for you to come home.

But I know it's too late,
I should have given you a reason to stay,
Given you a reason to stay,
given you a reason to stay,
given you a reason to stay.

This is fact not fiction,
for the first time in years.

It's finally starting to feel like summer. It's so gorgeous outside with the clear blue sky and green trees dancing together. I'm so close to being done with school and I get to do my favorite thing and read outside!

Yesterday my best friend Niki and I took my dogs for a walk and ate the world's biggest corn dogs covered in honey and ketchup. (But really... don't knock this til you try it.) We had snow cones and made cookies and talked and laughed. Twas the world's best day.

Here's looking at you, summer. With a movie I watch a lot every summer. You could say I watch it for... 500 days... OK these jokes are getting out of hand and leading nowhere. I love 500 Days of Summer and it has the best soundtrack. I especially love this song. Perfect for some summer driving.

Hellllo! It's been a weird few days and while I have a post coming up about the bad, let's focus on the good.

I'm finally starting my clinicals for school! I'm almost done! I know who really cares for me! The rain is magic! Summer!!!

This song has always sounded like summer to me and I have warm memories of this song. When I got this CD, it was right before my junior year and it's the only CD I listened to. That was when I first started Advanced Theater and this song has always sounded like that summer. Still sounds like it. I love nostalgia. JUST CALL ME GATSBY.

This song is called Strawberry Swing by Coldplay. Enjoy, lovelies :)

Barely getting these jams flowing under the wire! I had a very busy day out with the best of the best Niki. Saw Gatsby for the 4th time, had a rainbow. Today was splendid.

Yesterday was a rough one. One of my absolute best friends on Earth left for an 18 month sojourn to Minnesota (dontcha knooooo). I'm gonna miss her terribly but I cannot wait to write that girl a plethora of letters.

I went to her house yesterday to see her off. Shelby went to the wonderful trouble of burning a few people a CD that sounded like her and had some of her favorite songs. After we said our "see you in a minute" and many tears were shed, I drove up to my favorite look out spot in the mountains to listen to her CD. While I was listening I wrote her the first of many letters. She's going to be amazing. And she is so beautiful.

This was one of the songs on her CD and it's one of my absolute favorite songs in the world. Who doesn't love Paul McCartney? Seriously the cutest man.

So this one is for Shelby and my other missionary out in the field. See you in nine months, G. I love you.

See you in a minute :)

Wednesday, May 8

This is something I did on my old blog every Wednesday and I loved it. Bringing it back around!

Today is amazing. Rain like this makes me feel alive and at peace. Everything feels clean and lovely.

It's been a great week with tomorrow being the cherry on top. GATSBY. Needless to say I have been listening to nothing but the movie soundtrack since it came out Monday night. But two weeks ago, they released the single Lana Del Rey wrote specifically for the film. Or... to be more specific, the book. Lana is my favorite artist by far. Hands down. Her words are like velvet, just how I view Fitzgerald's words. She paints gorgeous and glamours pictures with her music. Who better to write a song for Gatsby. It's called Young and Beautiful and it's been the only song I've listened to for two weeks.

This song is completely Jay Gatsby. It feels like that perfect man. It's beautiful and dark and cinematic. Lana always sounds like she's on the verge of an orgasm when she sings. Gatsby lived his life on the verge of orgasm. Reading that book makes me feel orgasmic. This song is orgasmic.

Will you still love me
When I'm no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me
When I've got nothing but my aching soul?

All the ways I got to know
Your pretty face
And Electric Soul

Oh that grace, oh that body,
Oh that face, makes me want to party.

Stunning song for a stunning day.
